BetterRoaming is a global eSIM provider offering affordable prepaid data plans to travelers in over 160 countries. Their goal is to make mobile data access easy, fast, and cost-effective—without the need for physical SIM cards.
My role
- Rethink the UX and UI of the BetterRoaming mobile app.
- Focused on improving usability, visual appeal, and conversion flow to drive more customer signups.
- Collaborated closely with a project manager and developer throughout the entire product cycle.
Challenges
- Improve the overall user experience to make navigation more intuitive.
- Guide users more effectively toward the main action (buying a data plan) to increase subscriptions.
- Refine and modernize the visual UI to feel more polished and travel-friendly.
Process &Solution
- Competitive research:
- Studied other eSIM providers and travel apps to understand best practices in navigation, plan discovery, and onboarding flows.
- Identified friction points in the current app to propose more streamlined alternatives.
- Close collaboration:
- Participated in regular syncs with the PM and developer to align on goals, feasibility, and timeline.
- Worked iteratively, adapting the UX to technical limitations while maintaining a strong focus on simplicity and clarity.
- User testing:
- Tested prototypes with a range of users—both tech-savvy and non-technical—to validate assumptions and uncover usability issues.
- Applied insights to optimize plan selection, and purchase flows.
Results
- The redesigned app was successfully launched, with positive feedbacks following the update.
- The project contributed to BetterRoaming's continued growth in the competitive travel connectivity market.
